Magnolia Springs sits on the Magnolia River a few miles above Weeks Bay, far enough from Mobile Bay that the salt is light, but the river and the bay keep the air wet nearly all year. The homes along the river and under the oaks on Oak Street and the surrounding streets sit in deep shade, so the glass is damp most mornings, and the north and east sides of the house grow a green film in spring and fall that a wipe with a towel only smears. When the breeze comes up from Weeks Bay in the afternoon it brings a little salt along with it, which is enough to dull the river-facing glass over a couple of months.
