What Point Clear does to a window
Point Clear runs south from Fairhope along Scenic 98, and most of the homes here sit right on Mobile Bay with a wharf out front. The afternoon breeze comes in off the water with nothing to stop it, so the bay-facing glass, porches and screened rooms from Battles Wharf down to the Grand Hotel pick up a salt film within a couple of weeks of a clean. It is a softer salt than the Gulf, but the exposure is constant, and on a bright afternoon the low sun off the bay shows every bit of it.
The other thing Point Clear has is shade. The live oaks along Scenic 98 and Zundel Road are some of the oldest on the Eastern Shore, and under them the glass stays damp through the morning for most of the year. That means a green film on the north and east sides of the house in spring and fall, and a heavy pollen drop in March that sticks to the damp glass and screens. Homes on the east side of Scenic 98 and along the Lakewood golf course deal with irrigation on well water, which leaves mineral spots along the lower panes, and summer storms wash the whole mix into the tracks.
Bayfront homes in Point Clear usually go to every month or every two months, with the inside glass done once a year. Homes on the golf course side and back toward Highway 98 are fine on a quarterly plan, with a spring visit to clear the pollen. Do you clean second homes when the owner is away?
Yes. A good share of our Point Clear plans are on bay houses that are only used part of the year. Your caretaker, neighbor or property manager can be the contact for access, and we send the text before each visit to whoever you choose.
Can you clean the screened porch and the glass on the bay side?
Yes. Screens are included in the Platinum package, and the bay-side porch glass and sliders are part of every clean. For the large wharf-facing windows on two-story homes we use water-fed poles from the ground, so there is no ladder on the lawn.
